Seeking Assistive Technology Evaluator/Trainer

ImproveAbility is seeking a dynamic individual to perform assistive technology evaluations.

This job is based in Austin, TX.

This job would mostly consist of meeting with clients at their home, workplace, and/or virtually to assess their need for assistive technology in the following areas:

  • Jobsite accommodation/Ergonomics
  • Computer access for physical disabilities
  • Assistive technology for learning disabilities
  • Environmental controls
  • Bathroom Access
  • Home Access
  • Patient Lifts
  • And more…

A successful candidate would have a minimum of three years of assistive technology experience.  Specific educational background is open, but having background in rehabilitation, special education, or specific assistive technology education is preferred.  ATP certification ownership, or ability to immediately test and obtain ATP certification upon hire is a requirement of this position.  On the job training is available for specific AT areas, but general AT knowledge and understanding proper evaluation techniques is a prerequisite for this position.

This position requires the employee to produce comprehensive reports and/or quotes for equipment depending on the payor.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills is imperative, writing samples will be requested.  The ability to learn company standards as well as master constantly tweaked procedures is critical.

This is a sales position where the candidate will be called upon to maintain relationships with current referral sources as well as search out and solicit new business.

Although this position is focused on evaluations, training clients on the use of assistive technology as well as some installation work will be necessary for this position. 

Comfort with Windows computers, Mac Computers, iPad, and mobile devices, including ability to troubleshoot technical issues is a necessity of this position.  It is imperative for the employee to stay abreast of AT industry developments and new available technology.

ImproveAbility uses Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc) for our documentation, so comfort with these programs will be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting 30 lbs on a regular basis
  • Occasionally lifting over 30 lbs with assistance
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and perform tasks that require fine motor manual dexterity
  • Drive 4-6 hours at a time with minimal breaks
  • Travel required – overnight stays at times – depending on location and types of referrals received
